  • The Forecastle Festival Returns to the Belvedere
    Named one of the top 101 things to do in America by SPIN Magazine, the 7th annual Forecastle Festival returns to the scenic Belvedere for the second year in a row. The Music, Art and Activism festival will be held on July 25-27 and will feature more than 40 bands, 15 artists, and nearly 50 environmental organizations from five states.
  • The Louisville Zoo's Baby Elephant Takes to the Water
    Scotty, the Louisville Zoo’s 1-year-old baby African elephant, hit a big milestone today when he went swimming in the elephant yard pool.
  • North American, European Teams named for Inaugural Humana Fightmaster Cup
    Officials from The Cup Experience today announced the 24 players and two captains who will participate in the inaugural Humana Fightmaster Cup, a match play golf event that pits the best one-armed players from Europe against their counterparts from North America. The matches will be played September 12-14, 2008, at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
  • Sports League Organization Expands To Louisville
    Participating in the Louisville sports scene is about to become a whole lot easier with the July 4th introduction of Louisville Sports Leagues, an organization committed to developing sports leagues, tournaments and social events throughout the greater Louisville area. The league will begin with coed softball and kickball and add various leagues and activities as interest grows.
  • American Idol Comes to Louisville
    The widely popular reality-competition television series American Idol will hold two rounds of auditions in Louisville. Selected as one of eight cities for its 8th season, the initial round of preliminary auditions will take place on July 21 at Freedom Hall. Follow-up auditions will take place in early September at Churchill Downs.
  • Louisville named America's 'most livable' large city
    This weekend, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson is scheduled to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami, where Louisville is being recognized as America's "most livable" large city, according to Susan McNeese Lynch, communications liaison for the mayor's office.

    The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau invites eligible tour operators and group leaders responsible for the planning/booking of overnight tours to Louisville for a firsthand look at the city via its "Lunch in Louisville" program.

  • Louisville Zoo holds Grand Opening for renovated Tiger Tundra exhibit
    Today the Louisville Zoo held a "Grand Opening" for its Amur tiger exhibit after undergoing a $250,000, 5-month renovation. The exhibit transformation, which is an integral part of the Zoo's Glacier Run project, gives visitors a unique opportunity to connect with magnificent Amur tigers through interactive Zoo keeper trainings and fun, educational presentations.  
  • Downtown Louisville Rocks with Party on the Plaza
    Fourth Street Live!, Louisville's premier entertainment venue, gets Louisville rockin' with "Party on the Plaza," a free concert series presented by Miller Lite.  This year's concert series offers classic southern rock, pop and alternative rock genres.   Vertical Horizon kicks off the series on June 6, with some of the top names in the industry to follow.
  • Public is Invited to Travel the Urban Bourbon Trail
    The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau continues to celebrate Kentucky's heritage and embrace its signature drink and invites everyone to journey along the Urban Bourbon Trail.  The Trail, and its Passport Program, was unveiled on Friday, May 30 at Bourbon Barrel Foods retail store and manufacturing facility in Butchertown Market at 1201 Story Avenue. Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, along with the Kentucky Distillers' Association (KDA) and local hospitality leaders made the announcement.
  • Louisville Attractions Celebrate Locals
    In conjunction with National Tourism Week that begins Saturday, May 10, the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is promoting special discounts for Kentucky and Indiana residents during the city's Hometown Tourist Celebration. For the rest of May, many arts and cultural attractions from the Belle of Louisville to Farmington Historic Plantation and numerous museums on Main Street's "Museum Row" are offering 2-for-1 admission for locals.
  • Japanese Beatles Invade Hyatt Rooftop
    Courier-Journal.com Abbey Road on the River is going to kick-off its 2008 festival with a re-creation of the Beatles' last concert.The Beatles' last concert was held on the rooftop of the Apple Building in London during lunch hour on January 30, 1969.
  • Louisville “PossibiliTours” Fact Sheet
    Held four days a week, PossibiliTours (walking tours of Possibility City) will run April through October, weather permitting. Two tours will be conducted on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and one tour on Wednesdays.
  • National Magazine Names Louisville Among Most Improved Cities for Bicycling
    Louisville is adding miles and miles of bike lanes to city streets. It’s building a 100-mile hiking and biking trail called the Louisville Loop, and it hosts a twice-yearly Hike and Bike that attracts more than 4,000 people.
  • Pre-race festival is as important as Kentucky Derby
    The Kentucky Derby Festival, dating back to 1956, starts two weeks before the Kentucky Derby, which is always the first Saturday in May. The festival welcomes many people from across the world to experience firsthand some of the beautiful sights and sounds of the Horse Racing Capitol of the World.
  • B-52’s Headline Derby Eve in Louisville
    The B-52's, the "World's Greatest Party Band,"will headline the 2008 Derby Eve Jam on Friday, May 2 at 9 p.m.  Sponsored by Kentuckiana Honda Dealers, the concert will be held on the Great Stage at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival celebration.

    21c Museum Hotel is among the 150 North American hotels named to National Geographic Traveler magazine's "Stay List."
  • Kentucky Bourbon Highlighted at Derby Festival Event
    The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is hosting a themed area called "Bourbon Country" during the Kentucky Derby Festival. Overlooking the river in downtown Louisville at Waterfront Park, Bourbon Country will be a part of Kroger's Derby Fest-a-Ville. Running April 24 through Derby Eve, May 2, Fest-a-Ville will host more than 30 planned events including outdoor movie screenings, national music acts, fine wine and bourbon, food and family recreation. 
  • Tracy Lawrence Kicks Off Free Summer Concert Series in Louisville
    The tradition continues as Fourth Street Live! renews the Miller Lite "Hot Country Nights" concert series for a 5th  consecutive year.  Since 2004, Fourth Street Live! has hosted some of the hottest names in country music.  The series has become one of the most highly-anticipated summer events at the downtown entertainment district. This year Miller Lite "Hot Country Nights" heats up in June with the following shows scheduled through the summer:

  • Craft Distillers Hold Whiskey Conference at Huber’s Starlight Distillery
    Many of America's premier craft distillers will be on-hand Tuesday, April 8 at ADI's 5th Annual Craft Distilling Conference at Huber's Starlight Distillery. Master distillers Ted Huber and Jason Heiligenburg will conduct demonstrations of the art of craft distilling.
  • Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Cup Honors Equine Legend
    At the 2008 Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs and Woodford Reserve bourbon will pay homage to one of horse racing’s finest athletes, Secretariat, with a one-of-a-kind tribute - the world’s most expensive mint julep cup. With precious jewels and the artwork of internationally-acclaimed sports artist LeRoy Neiman, the $1,000 Mint Julep Cup is available only on May 3, 2008, Kentucky Derby Day. Proceeds from the cups will benefit The Secretariat Foundation which assists and supports various charities and causes within the thoroughbred racing community.

    The National Rifle Association's (NRA) Annual Meetings and Exhibits will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center and the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky May 16-18, 2008.

  • Bobby Flay featured on new Kentucky Derby Web site
    Bobby Flay, host of the Food Network's Emmy-award-winning show "Boy Meets Grill," has been named the official host of "Kentucky Derby Party," a new Churchill Downs Inc. Web site.
  • Louisville to Host Nation’s Premier Education Conference
    SkillsUSA, a national organization of career and technical education students, instructors and business partners, announced today that it will return its National Leadership and Skills Conference to Louisville, Kentucky for six years beginning in June 2015.  The organization has grown into one of the largest student groups in the country, and the national conference will rank as the fourth largest convention (see attached list) hosted by the city when it returns.  It will generate nearly $12 million to the local economy each year.   
  • Pro Volleyball Event Returns to Louisville
    The AVP Crocs Tour Louisville Open will return to Louisville's Waterfront Park on May 23-26 over Memorial Day weekend. 
  • Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft Announces Major Changes in 2008
    The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft will introduce new programming and educational offerings and begin charging an admission fee to view the exhibitions as of February 4, 2008. The Museum's Gallery Shop will remain free for all patrons. The new fee is the result of a new strategic plan for the museum that works to promote art and craft excellence in Kentucky.
  • Louisville’s Transforming Skyline Goes Live Online
    The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched of two new webcams that provide a live feed of two of Louisville's most ambitious and expensive projects, the Downtown Arena and Museum Plaza.
  • Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau Welcomes John McCarthy, New Commissioner
    John T. McCarthy, McCarthy & Speaks Strategic Solutions, was recently appointed to the Louisville and Jefferson County Visitors and Convention Commission.
  • Louisville named a finalist for major convention
    Louisville has made the final round as a possible host city for the National FFA Convention.  Along with Indianapolis, Louisville is a finalist to host the annual convention beginning in 2013 through 2022.  Kansas City and Minneapolis were also being considered but were eliminated on Wednesday.
  • City Visitors Center Honored
    On January 11, 2008 the Louisville Visitors Center was awarded the 2007 Construction Award of Excellence presented by the Kentuckiana Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (Kentuckiana ABC), Inc. at its Chairman's Annual Banquet. Chartered in 1973, the Kentuckiana ABC is a "merit shop" construction trade association representing nearly 500 companies throughout Kentucky and 7 southern Indiana counties.
  • 2008-09 Multicultural Visitor Guide for Louisville Published
    The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau (Bureau) released its 2008 - 2009 Multicultural Visitors Guide. The annual Guide received a makeover. With its new size and magazine-style binding, the larger format allows for easier reading. A new feature in this issue is an article written by local freelance writer Ron Cooper called "Explore the Possibilities: Take a Tour of Louisville." The story offers the visitor three different themed itineraries including family fun, the multicultural experience and Kentucky's Bourbon tradition.
  • National Street Rod Association Extends Contract with Kentucky Exposition Center through 2020
    Louisville residents can expect to see thousands of street rods flood the city during the first weekend in August for several years to come. The National Street Rod Association (NSRA) recently renewed its contract with the Kentucky Exposition Center through year 2020.
  • Frazier International History Museum Hosts A Slave Ship Speaks: The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie
    A Slave Ship Speaks:  The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie offers the public an exclusive opportunity to experience the emotional reminders of the transatlantic slave trade.  The Frazier International History Museum's special traveling exhibit will illustrate the boundless endurance of the human spirit, January 26 through May 26, 2008.
  • More Than 30 Motorcoaches Have Rolled into Louisville This Holiday Season
    For the last several years, the Louisville CVB and area attractions have marketed a three-day itinerary for motorcoach groups called the Finest Four Holiday Package, which includes two night's accommodations at the Galt House Hotel & Suites, a dockside luncheon on the Spirit of Jefferson, a tour of the Frazier International History Museum and a performance at Derby Dinner Playhouse.

  • Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft to Host the Largest Exhibition of Stephen Powell's Work
    The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is honored to be hosting largest showing of Kentucky glassblower Stephen Powell's work in Master Makers: Stephen Rolfe Powell, A Retrospective Exhibition.  The show, sponsored by PNC, will be on display at the Museum from October 20, 2007 through February 2, 2008, and is being held in conjunction with the launch of the critically acclaimed book Stephen Rolfe Powell: Glassmaker.
  • Endangered Baby Ocelot Birth Significant for Species
    An endangered Brazilian ocelot kitten was born at the Louisville Zoo Sept. 23. This was the first offspring for mom Miguela and second for father Itirapua.
  • Getting Around Louisville Easier with New Web Tool
    TARC (Transit Authority of River City), in partnership with the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, recently unveiled two new products that will make traveling around Louisville via city bus much easier.  The "Day Tripper" is a one-day pass that is good for an unlimited number of rides on all TARC routes* for the calendar day it is purchased for.

  • Famed Sports Artist, LeRoy Neiman, Paints Official Ryder Cup Artwork
    World-renowned artist, LeRoy Neiman, has created the Official 37th Ryder Cup Artwork. The 37th Ryder Cup will be held September 16-21, 2008 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The artwork will be sold at the newly opened Cobalt Artworks, located in the historic West Main Street District in downtown Louisville.
  • National Recording Project Comes To Louisville
    In conjunction with Louisville's Public Radio Partnership, StoryCorps, a national project that aims to instruct and inspire people to record each others' stories in sound, will visit Louisville from September 27 through November 3.

    Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced a $250 million development district that would bring new retail stores, a movie theatre, a boutique hotel, condominiums and restaurants to downtown while also creating a venue for minor-league hockey.
  • U.S. Senate Declares September National Bourbon Heritage Month
    The U.S. Senate declared today, by unanimous vote, September as "National Bourbon Heritage Month."  This resolution reinforces bourbon as "America's Native Spirit" by celebrating the family heritage, tradition and deep-rooted legacy that the bourbon industry contributes to the United States.  The resolution also calls for consumers who enjoy bourbon to do so responsibly and in moderation.

    Louisville hosted the 133rd Kentucky Derby this past Saturday.  A crowd of 156,000 were on hand at Churchill Downs to see Street Sense win the most coveted horse race in the world - the "run for the roses."  Queen Elizabeth II, the most celebrated guest of this year's Derby, was on hand fulfilling one of her life-long dreams of attending the race.
  • Louisville Music, Art & Activism Festival Expands
    Fans of music, art and activism have more to look forward to as one of Louisville's summer events expands to the scenic Belvedere, overlooking the Ohio River in downtown Louisville. The 6th Annual Forecastle Festival will be held on the Belvedere July 27-28 and expects the largest participation in its history, with over 60 bands, 25 artists, and nearly 50 environmental organizations from six states.

    The final tally for athlete registration at the 2007 Summer National Senior Games - The Senior Olympics presented by Humana sets a new participation record - more than 12,000 athletes over age 50 will compete from June 22 through July 7. The previous record of 11,927 athletes registered was set in 1999 during the Summer National Senior Games held in Orlando.
