Geeks Invade Louisville

IdeaFestival attracts thinkers from around the world

LOUISVILLE, KY (September 6, 2007) - What do alternative rock legends, a filmmaker, a fashion designer, a psychiatrist, a Middle Eastern blogger, a Pulitzer Prize winner and an environmental artist all have in common?  They, along with other participating speakers and performers, will be a part of the 2007 IdeaFestival, a four-day event devoted to the power of ideas, innovation, unconstrained imagination and the exploration of shared thinking. For the second year in a row, Louisville will serve as host city of the festival on September 13-15, with a series of events taking place at various locations in downtown Louisville.

Previously held in Lexington, Ky. in 2000, the event attracted approximately 3,500 and grew in subsequent years to nearly 10,000 in 2004. Event officials decided to relocate to Louisville in 2006 due to the expanding attendance levels. Officials anticipate a total audience of over 15,000 attendees at this year's IdeaFestival.

New speakers and topics have been added this year, with categories expanded to explore ideas as they relate to music, food, art, commerce and science, among many others. Notable speakers scheduled to participate include inventor, entrepreneur and co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, and novelist, playwright, screenwriter and poet, Ray Bradbury.

The title sponsor for the 2007 IdeaFestival is Geek Squad, an elite force of exceedingly skilled and highly mobile individuals who are dedicated to bettering civilians' relationships with technology.  Geek Squad will also serve as official technical support of this year's event.  As a presenting sponsor, Red7e Advertising has created three online videos to promote this year's festival.  The "dumb idea" videos can be viewed by visiting www.YouTube.com/user/red7e.

"The Big Jam," the opening ceremony for the festival, will take place on September 13 at 9 a.m. at the Kentucky International Convention Center and includes three, idea-packed workshops spanning a range of various topics. Other venues on the rotating schedule of events include the Muhammad Ali Center, the Kentucky Center and the Jazz Factory.  The festival is an "open source" experience, with many events free and open to the public.  For a complete schedule of events, visit www.IdeaFestival.com.
