Visit these Louisville Area Locations featured in "Queen of the Ring"

"Queen of the Ring," a feature film shot in Louisville, will hit theaters around the country on March 7th after having its world premiere at Louisville's AMC Stonybrook Theater on February 25th.

"Queen of the Ring" is a compelling sports drama set in the 1930s-50s which delves into the life of Mildred Burke, a trailblazing female professional wrestler who defied societal norms to become the first million-dollar female athlete in history. Notably, the movie was filmed in and around Louisville, Kentucky, intertwining its narrative with the city's rich cultural tapestry and architectural gems.

The production commenced in the summer of 2023, with various local landmarks and neighborhoods serving as authentic backdrops. This is just one of the many films that have filmed in the city as of late, underscoring Louisville's status as a burgeoning hub for the film industry.

The Brown Hotel | 335 W. Broadway

Located at the corner of West Broadway and historic South 4th Street, the Brown Hotel was built in 1923 and was the site of multiple locations in the film, including the iconic Muhammad Ali Suite as well or the hotel's ornate lobby. Book an overnight stay or pop-in to the lobby bar and restaurant for a Mint Julep or the city's signature dish, The Hot Brown.

The Seelbach Hotel | 500 S. 4th St.

Also located on South 4th Street, the Seelbach Hotel was built in 1905 and is the city's oldest active hotel. Take a free tour of the property to see some of the hotel's iconic spaces and learn about the famous, and infamous guests that used have frequented the space over the years. Take a photo in the Seelbach Lobby (pictured above) before heading into the Old Seelbach Bar to imbibe on a classic Seelbach Cocktail. The hotel's Grand Ballroom and Rathskeller were also used as locations in the film.

The Palace Theatre | 625 S. 4th St.

Nearing 100 years old, The Palace Theatre is one of the city's last remaining movie palaces that used to line South 4th Street's Theater District. Both the interior and exterior were used as filming locations, showing off the venue's Spanish Baroque-style architecture and extravagant lobby. Check the Palace event calendar to see upcoming shows, which have included previous performances by Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, James Taylor and Prince.

Headliners Music Hall | 1386 Lexington Rd.

Another iconic music venue, Headliners Music Hall was opened in 1998, but is located in a building that was built in 1907. The space was transformed in "The Queen of the Ring" turning the music venue into a makeshift 1940s practice boxing gym.

The Grand | 138 E. Market St., New Albany, IN

Located just across the river from downtown Louisville in New Albany, Indiana, is The Grand theater. Built in 1909, the moving picture and orchestra complex turned wedding venue was used as a filming location for one of the movie's boxing scenes.

Other Louisville locations to keep an eye out for that were used in the filming of The Queen of the Ring include The Henry Clay, The Pendennis Club, Oxmoor Farm, the Conrad Caldwell House, Actors Theatre, Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, and the Pink Palace in Old Louisville.
