Bernheim Forest and Arboretum

Overview

Bernheim Forest and Arboretum encompasses over 16,000 acres (over 25.5 square miles - larger than the island of Manhattan) of protected forest in Kentucky, about 25 miles south of Louisville. Bernheim is home to a 600-acre arboretum, designated as Kentucky’s official arboretum. The natural landscape features large expanses of scenic woodlands crossed by 40+ miles of hiking trails and extensive natural areas managed for conservation purposes.

Inside Bernheim’s one-of-a-kind Visitor Center are a gift shop and Isaac’s Café, which offers fresh seasonal menus made with local produce, sourced from Bernheim's own Edible Garden. Bernheim offers a variety of programs and events intended to inspire, educate and entertain.

The natural landscape features a variety of art installations from artists across the globe, including the Forest Giants in a Giant Forest, by Danish artist Thomas Dambo.

Bernheim is open daily 7:00 a.m. until near sunset; closed January 1, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25. The Visitor Center and Isaac's Café are open daily 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. A $15 per vehicle donation is recommended for admission. Bernheim is always free for members.
